Mí na Meala

Our debut bridal collection is called ‘Mí na Meala’ which is Gaelic for ‘month of honey’, the term honeymoon originated from this Irish translation. It was customary for the newlyweds to spend a month alone together drinking mead, a wine made of fermented honey.

Mí na Meala bridal collection is inspired by the traditional craft of Irish lace making. In the 19th century, as Ireland was facing the Great Irish Famine crochet lace work was introduced as a form of famine relief. This delicate beauty came from dark times. Small motifs were crocheted separately and then joined together forming one piece of lace. Families created their own motif shapes inspired by their surroundings, examples of these shapes are oak leaves, acorns, thistles, bluebells, ivy, daffodils, butterflies, carnations, roses and bowls of grapes.
